Study: Is Junk Food As Addictive As Cocaine?

"Is a potato chip equal to a dose of heroin? No," said Shelly Sprague with the Pasadena Recovery Center.

Sprague read how the study says fatty foods seem to push the same buttons in the brain...just not as hard as drugs do.

"The brain is flooded with a certain level of dopamine...that creates high levels of euphoria," she said. "Addiction is a physical dependency that you will become violently ill if you do not take this substance. That is addiction. I don't care how many bags of potato chips I eat, I'm not going to become violently ill if I don't have another bag of potato chips."
